MW Environmental Scientist/Field Engineer Receives EPA Environmental Achievement Award

Due to her significant contribution of recommending pollution prevention practices to Wyoming small businesses, Carol Stark Received the Environmental Achievement Award from the EPA. Her actions resulted in measurable improvement to the environment.

Carol completed initial and follow-up pollution prevention site assessments for 18 Wyoming small businesses in FY05. These businesses implemented the pollution prevention practices she recommended resulting in a savings of $98,585. They also diverted 24,000 gallons of used oil, 462,180 pounds of solid waste, 3,308 cubic yards of aluminum, cardboard, paper, and waste metal, and 78 pounds of hazardous chemicals from the landfill. Collectively, they saved 72,000 gallons of water. Carol’s contract was to conduct assessments of small businesses and it was through her follow-up efforts that measurable results were realized and reported. The implementation of her suggested pollution prevention practices contributed significantly to measurable environmental improvements by 18 small businesses in Wyoming and towards advancing the Agency’s Strategic Goal 5, Compliance and Environmental Stewardship.

Carol was presented the award in Casper on March 20th at the end of MW's quarterly staff meeting. John Brink, Region 8 EPA Pollution Prevention and Toxics Unit Chief and Linda Walters, Region 8 EPA Pollution Prevention Grants Coordinator were there to present the award.
