Biography

Larry Stewart served as the Regional Operations Director with MAMTC for 10 years and is finishing his first year as Center Director for the newly formed “Manufacturing- Works”, the Wyoming MEP. Larry has had one of the more successful MEP programs in the nation for the last 11 years in a state with few manufacturers and great distances. Politically active he has great state recognition and support; both financially and with program cooperation throughout the state. Prior to his 11 years with the MEP he held leadership positions in Finance, Planning, Human Resources and Engineering with large telecommunication companies including USWEST in California and Colorado. He is a registered Professional Engineer in 11 Western states. A Wyoming native, growing up in Bridger Valley, located in Uinta County, he has an undergraduate and graduate degree in engineering from the University of Wyoming; and took nearly 20 years to find the right kind of job to bring him back home to the state.

Larry is well known as a “why not?” personality who believes there are positive possibilities wherever you look; they just need focus, definition and pursuit. A very atypical engineer, he serves as a rallying point for many of his colleagues and has done so since his initial involvement in NIST/MEP committees and special interest groups at the National Level. He likes to practice CPR - Consistent, Persistent, Resolve type behavior to conquer any problem and provide clarity to confusion. Being a Renaissance person is within everyone’s grasp and integrating new partners and new understandings of everyone’s need. Let’s try some refreshing new perspectives and see where they take us. “Why not?” Further information regarding some of the outside of the box thinking he pursues can be found at www.entreworld.org, an October 2003 article and at www.Businessweek.com, a November 2003 article.
